7th October 2022

Dear parents/ carers,

I hope you have all had a great week.  We have had lots of fun in school including Reception Class getting involved in a ‘Fly me to the moon’ story telling event this morning.

Along with 20,000 other Early Years children, the children were able to enjoy the scientist and storyteller Cassandra Wye read a lovely story called ‘Fly me to the moon’ in song and sign to celebrate World Space week.  All of the children joined in with the signs and songs wonderfully.  The children were able to explore the relationship between the Earth, sun and moon and sustainability, thinking about what we can all do to help our beautiful planet to thrive – big topics for our youngest children!

What a super celebration assembly this morning.  As well as giving out Headteacher awards and congratulating children for achievements out of school, we also shared some poems from the classes as part of National Poetry Day this week.  I would like to give a special mention to Rupert in Year 6 for the most brilliant performance of his own poem – Wow! What a fantastic performance he gave; one I’ll remember for a long time!

Sporting News from Wilf  in Year 6:  Congratulations to the football club team who played on Thursday.  They went up against Chrishall this week.  The end result was 16-2 to Henham.  We had lots of strong areas in the midfield and most of the players scored a goal.  I think this is the best game Henham have played for ages!

Flu Immunisations:  If you have decided you would like your child to have the flu vaccine and missed it in school this week, you can contact the Immunisation Team on: 0300 790 0597 to arrange.

A message from the catering team:  If your child is bringing grapes in their lunchboxes or for snack, can we please remind you to cut them in half, length ways, to avoid a choking hazard; thank you!

Year 1 ‘Toy Museum’: Year 1 opened their classroom door for parents, grandparents and siblings to visit their toy museum this afternoon.  Equipped with their own maps, the children were able to hold guided tours of the classroom, showcasing the range of learning they have undertaken so far.  The children have conducted toy surveys, drawn old and modern toys,  created their own lists, captions and labels to accompany the exhibits, and made teddies using a paint program.  Many thanks to all who could attend and celebrate the children’s learning.

I know many of you have been affected following the sad news this week, regarding a former family of Henham School.  Should you need to reach out for support, here is a link that may help:  https://www.cruse.org.uk/

Many of you have asked how you can support the family, a Go Fund Me page has been set up, which can be accessed here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/raising-money-for-their-futures

Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
