I am proud to be the Headteacher of our small village school where the children are at the centre of everything we do.

The school is set in the heart of the countryside on the Essex/Hertfordshire border, enabling easy access for families living in Stansted, Bishop’s Stortford, Newport and surrounding villages.

Being a one form entry school means we know our children well. We put great emphasis on meeting individual needs within a supportive and stimulating environment.

We have a strong focus on developing the academic skills of our children; preparing them for the next stage in their learning journey, as well as developing their creative, emotional and social skills through our broad range of additional experiences and after school clubs.

Sport, and the benefits it brings, is very important to our school community. We have a long history of sporting achievement and are extremely proud to have been awarded the National School Games Mark Platinum Award, in recognition of the many sporting opportunities here at Henham, both in our school and within the wider community.

Music plays an important part at Henham and Ugley Primary and Nursery School. We provide many varied musical opportunities for the children. Choir runs as a lunchtime club and we also have our own orchestra who meet once a week. Instrument tuition is available in recorder, guitar, drums, piano and a range of string and brass instruments. Some brave and talented members of staff even take on the challenge of teaching a certain instrument to the whole class! The children have the chance to perform in termly Musical Showcases to the rest of the school and performance based trips are a regular feature in the school calendar. Last year, we took part in the very impressive Barnardo’s massed choir event at the Royal Albert Hall; a truly fantastic experience for all.

Our provision begins at Nursery, with specialist staff ensuring the very best start for your children. With a dedicated, high quality, purpose built nursery, the children are able to settle into their new learning environment with ease. Many of our children continue at the school after Nursery – surroundings are familiar and the transition feels very natural.

I am delighted that we also offer a breakfast and after school club facility throughout the school week. Our wraparound care is provided on site by our own staff and enables working parents to drop their children off from 7.15am and latest pick up is at 6.15pm.  This is pre-booked and paid for using our simple online school payment system and childcare vouchers are also accepted.

Henham has an active Parent Staff Association (PSA) that raises highly valued additional funds for the school. This money enables us to buy new equipment and technology which has a direct impact on our children’s learning. We are fortunate enough to have a very committed and skilled Governing Board that works closely with the school to ensure Henham is a special place to learn.

I am very proud of Henham and Ugley Primary and Nursery School and all that it offers. Visitors are always welcome.
