Dear parents/ carers,
What a lovely sunny end to the week! I thought this week I’d clarify what’s happening on Friday 27th May, with regard to our sports morning & picnic lunch, followed by the afternoon celebrations.
For some children (and parents), this will be their first sports day event at Henham. For those that have attended sports days at Henham before, we are doing things a little differently!
The gates will open in the morning between 8.30am – 8.55am as usual, for you to drop your child to class for morning registration. I will keep the gates open until 9.15am to allow for additional family members to arrive.
Families can then find a suitable spot on the field to set up, ready to watch a morning of traditional sports for all classes, Nursery – Year 6. There is no restriction on the number in your family and friends wanting to attend.
We anticipate the first events to start by 9.30am.
If your child doesn’t normally attend Nursery on a Friday but you would like them to attend this Friday session, please contact Mrs Hipperson or Mrs Nicholls in the school office at admin@henhamugley.essex.sch.uk or jnicholls@henhamugley.essex.sch.uk by Friday 13th May, to book this day.
All children are to wear red, white or blue sports appropriate clothing (or a mixture of all three colours!), in line with our Jubilee theme this week.
Our normal lunch menu will not be offered for this day only, instead, a picnic bag can be pre-ordered by following this link: https://forms.office.com/r/r0cPhA9Txn The cost per child in Nursery, Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 is £2.20. Adults £2.60. For those children in Reception, Year 1 and 2, there is no payment, due to Universal Free School Meals (UFSM), although you will still need to pre-order. Please place your lunch request by Friday 13th May to allow time for the ingredients to be purchased.
Once the sports events have finished at approximately 12 noon, your children will join you to have their lunch. For families not able to attend, we will have staff with these children.
Lunch will finish at 1pm, when the children will go back to their classes to be registered for the afternoon session.
After registration, all children will come back onto the field to present their activities from the week to families, in a parade style, the children will also sing the jubilee song.
Once this has finished, all children will return to their classes. You are welcome to take your child home early if the finish is before 3pm, I would ask that you wait outside your child’s class so we can ensure all children are accounted for.

Writing competition: A reminder of Mrs Brogan’s Jubilee writing competition. It seems that the attachment last week wasn’t sent and so I have attached it again for full details – please do take a look and encourage your child to apply. Prize winners will be announced at our Jubilee celebrations on the afternoon of Friday 27th May.
