27th May 2022

Dear parents/ carers,

What a fantastic end to this half term we have had with our Jubilee celebrations and activities this week!  Today has been the most fabulous day, a chance for everyone to come together and join as a community once again.  How fortunate we were with the weather too! It was brilliant to see all the children involved in the sporting challenges, from Nursery through to Year 6.  I am so proud of our wonderful community and can’t thank you enough for joining and supporting the children today.  It was certainly a day to remember.

A huge thank you to Mr Armstrong for the fabulous pictures below!

Mrs Brogan’s writing competition:  A huge well done to everyone who took part in this super competition, the prize winners were:

Nursery: Amelia                      Reception: George                 KS1: Sophia, with runners up: Millie and Davey

KS2: Liv H, with runners up: Alexis and Joshua        Best illustration: Alice

Year 2 set a homework challenge to design and make their own royal palace structure and they created a Jubilee patchwork as a class.  Tabitha made a cake palace which Year 2 all ate 😊

Year 4 read to Cherry class this week; they were brilliant! Year 4 read their own stories to the children, they wrote these books with a target audience of Reception children in mind. The positive reaction of Cherry class showed how successful the year 4 children shared their knowledge of the Queen.  Well done Year 4!

As well as our Jubilee celebrations, Years 3 and 4 put on a production of ‘Aladdin trouble’ this week to parents and Key Stage 1. It has been brilliant to have been involved in a production again and see so many relatives of the children come along to watch them. The kids were amazing – brilliant acting; singing and dancing. I know all the staff have been so impressed with their dedication; hard work and how they supported each other so well with prompting of lines if needed; their cues to go on stage and passing over of props. It was a truly magical performance!

A message from our Sports Lead, Miss Branch: Thank you to those who took part in the Commonwealth relay baton competition this week. There was some brilliant designs and some really thoughtful messages written which would go inside the relay baton.

The runner up was Lexi (Year 4)

The winner was Grayson (Year 6)

I have posted the winning entry off this evening. Fingers crossed for a win against the other Uttlesford schools! Watch this space!!

(Grayson is the photo with all the flags; Lexi’s is the one with Summer 2022 on it)

Also, keep a look out in your inboxes for details of the PSA readathon coming soon!

A would like to say a huge thank you to Catherine Ford and her band of merry helpers for the super work on our school allotment this half term.

Providing sessions with the children to plant and get involved with the allotment is so appreciated.  Thank you!

COVID-19 Vaccination Sessions for Children aged 5+

We have found out this week that the child-friendly COVID-19 vaccination centre at Harlow LeisureZone will be offering vaccinations with no appointment needed for children aged 5+ every Saturday in May, including the half term holidays, so there’s still time to go!  NHS staff are experts at welcoming children and families to the friendly, relaxed sessions.

Find your local walk-in centre here

You can also book appointments via the National Booking Service or by calling 119.

Finally, as our super Jubilee sports morning and picnic lunch went ahead as planned today (thanks to the glorious weather!) I am now able to confirm a competitive sports afternoon for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 has been planned for Wednesday 20th July from 1.15pm.  Our lovely Sports Lead, Miss Branch, will be in touch with further details nearer the time.

That’s it from me, have a super half term break.  Remember it’s a non-pupil day on Monday 6th June, and so we look forward to welcoming children back to school on Tuesday 7th June.

Whatever you are planning this half term, I wish you all a lovely break.

With best wishes,

Kim
