26th November 2021

Dear parents/ carers,

As another week draws to a close, it is so lovely to hear the excitement from our younger children as they get ready for their nativity productions in two weeks.  A reminder that we will not be issuing tickets for the performances for EYFS and KS1, I am asking that you limit the attendance to two members of your family for each performance; thank you.

We also have the Travelling Book Fair in school this week.  Your child/ren will have the opportunity to look at the books with their class between Friday 26th November and Tuesday 30th November and create a ‘wish list’ of books that they would like. The ‘wish lists’ will then come home for you to look at. If you wish to purchase any of the books on the ‘wish list’, then please pay online via Parent payments – Travelling Book Fairs (scholastic.co.uk) selecting option 2 or 3. Then send the ‘wish list’ back to school with your child by Wednesday 1st December. Books purchased will then be brought home at the end of next week.

The Book Fair is also a wonderful opportunity for you to help our school. Every purchase earns our school rewards which we can use to stock our library further!  Thank you for your support.

From tomorrow, Essex Libraries Services will be launching their Winter Reading Challenge they would love to invite children and families to take part.

All families need to do is visit your local library, sign up and collect one of their exclusive giant bookmarks, which will be stamped with one of their special woodland creature stamps for each book they read. The aim is to read six books over the winter period and receive a large golden star on completion of the challenge.

Everyone who signs up will be entered into a prize draw with a chance to win some fantastic prizes.  These include Love Essex goodie bags, signed books from authors Catherine Emmett, Vassiliki Tzomaka and Emma Beswetherick and days out with Explore Essex, Essex Outdoors and the Wilderness Foundation. Full details of the prize draw can be found on our website.

Families can take part at any point from 27 November 2021 – 19 February 2022.

Sporting News: Children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part in an Archery competition against this week, hosted at Henham.  What a super event it was.  Congratulations to Holly in Year 4 and Lucy in Year 6 who were the top scorers for the girls, each scoring 109; absolutely brilliant!

Congratulations also to Lyra, Rex, Tameema and Toby who came 4th overall and have qualified for the finals, to be held in the summer term.

Years 5 and 6 attended a dodgeball event this morning and what a super time they had with the Blue Team coming 4th overall.

Well done to all the children that took part in the events this week, you all displayed such super sportsmanship and should be so proud of your yourselves.

Parent Volunteers:  We have only had one parent so far sign up for the training session.  If you would like to volunteer but are unable to attend on the 30th November, if you could please let me know; thank you.

A reminder of Mrs Espie’s message: I will be running a short training session for parent helpers, in preparation for you to support us, at 2pm on Tuesday 30th November.  The training will cover various procedures including changing books, reading with children and how to work and support a small group of children (within the classroom).

If you would like to become a parent volunteer, and can attend the training session, please notify Mrs Hall by Friday 26th November.  If you don’t hold a DBS with us, this can also be arranged.

Parent information:  Active Essex and Essex County Council are pleased to be offering FREE places on the Essex ActivAte December holiday programme for young people who are eligible for benefits based free school meals and for those working families who could benefit from this additional holiday support, as well as other eligible groups. These clubs provide a range of fun activities and a healthy lunch for every child attending. Please find attached a flyer with more information and the link to book.   If you require any assistance with this, please do let me know.
