A report from Lexi and Leah in Year 5: England vs Iran.  On Monday we were lucky enough to watch England’s victorious first match in the World Cup. The atmosphere was electric in the classroom as students collected their chairs and gathered in front of the screen to watch England’s big game. England’s first goal was scored by Bellingham in the 35th minute. Sterling and Saka also helped pushed England into the lead by scoring 2 goals in total bringing the final score in the first half to be 3-0 to England. After a 24-minute break, Saka, Rashford and Grealish also scored in the second half. Both Iran goals were scored by Mehdi Taremi making the final score 6-2 to England.

Stansted Airport Writing Competition: Have you got an aspiring author in Key stage 2?  Stansted Airport has launched its brand-new writing competition for World Book Day 2023.  They are inviting Key Stage 2 students to write a short story or poem to be in with the chance of featuring in their new published book – ‘Little Book of Travel Tales’, set to launch at the airport in February 2023. Budding artists are also invited to submit a drawing for the chance to be chosen as their front cover design.

The deadline for entries is 13th December, but please get your entries into school for us to submit by Friday 9th December – good luck!

Christmas trees! We have been contacted by Follies to let you know that for every Christmas tree purchased from them, they will donate £5 to the school if you mention Henham and Ugley Primary School.  No voucher is required, just mention the name of the school and £5 will be automatically donated!

Finally, I love it when children come to my office to share super examples of their work, and this afternoon I had the pleasure of hearing 3 examples of brilliant writing from Elise, Nate and Penny from Year 2.  I was blown away with their use of vocabulary to describe a winter scene; well done!

That’s it for this week, have a super weekend everyone,

Kim
