25th February 2022

Dear parents/ carers,

Welcome back to the start of the second half of the spring term – what a windy start it’s been!

Sports news this week:

What a super morning the hockey team had on Wednesday at Newport for the USSP Hockey Tournament.  The children were just amazing and worked so well as a team, really supporting each other (and me!) I am so proud of them all.   Well done to Abigail, Alina, Evie, Grace,  Oscar L, Oscar P, Phoebe, Ruby, Toby and Wilf, who came in fourth place overall.   Special thanks to our lovely parents Catherine and Madeleine for supporting.

The Year 4 class took part in the tag rugby competition today at Manuden fields. They have all worked so hard over the last weeks to learn all the rules and represented Henham brilliantly today. Millie, said “Even though green team didn’t win all their matches we had great teamwork, we worked hard to score lots of tries and we were really resilient.” Liv H said “Even though we didn’t win our matches we tried our best.” Green team took part in the B tournament and finished joint 1st and the Purple team took part in the A tournament and came 4th and will now progress to the finals. Purple team were noted by the organisers as having great team work. The whole class should be really pleased with their efforts. It was a fantastic morning – so lovely to be back outside competing again!

Well done to, Purple team: Harry M; Ben M; Harry W; Teddy; Alfie; Lara; Leah; Liv S; Liv H

Green team: Charlotte; Lexi; Zena; Mariyam; Jaz; Millie; Esme; Bobby; Bertie; Archie; Loui;

Year 1:  Today the children in year 1 enjoyed an action-packed, great hands on learning day at Aerozone, Stansted Airport.  As well as dressing up, learning about continents, countries, and their flags, they also had a question and answer session with the airport fire fighters, and the opportunity to squirt the hoses and climb aboard the fire engine.  After lunch they watched airplanes land from Poland and Latvia, and take off for Italy!  Many thanks to our awesome parent helpers Emma, Leanne, Lou and Kate.

Kitchen News! As you know it’s pancake day next Tuesday 1st March, and Miss Reed will be changing the pudding to pancakes, chocolate sauce and raspberries – roll on Tuesday!

Absence reporting:  If you are emailing to let us know your child won’t be in school or has an appointment, could you please direct emails to Mrs Hipperson, admin@henhamugley.essex.sch.uk and Mrs Nicholls, jnicholls@henhamugley.essex.sch.uk  so they can update the register accordingly; thank you.

Staffing: Yesterday, we said a fond farewell to our lovely Mrs Hampton.  After twenty years at Henham, it was a very sad time for us all to say goodbye, but we all wish her much happiness for her future adventures.  Mrs Hampton has had such an impact on so many children and as staff we have all learnt so much from her; she will be missed greatly.  We all wish her much love and happiness for the future.

Vacancies at Henham:  We have a vacancy for a nursery practitioner – for more details, please see the link on our website, https://henhamugley.essex.sch.uk/current-vacancies/ or the Essex School Jobs website: http://www.essexschoolsjobs.co.uk/Vacancies/Details.

A reminder of what’s coming up:

Parents Evening:  following the request at the parent forum last year, this terms parent consultations on Monday and Thursday next week, are being held virtually.  To sign up, please log in to your Scopay account and follow the link, which will be open until midnight on Sunday.  If you have any questions or issues accessing, please do contact Mrs Hipperson or Mrs Nicholls in the school office.

World Book Day: You will already have seen the email from Mrs Espie this week, a reminder that we will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March by holding a non-uniform day.  Children can wear an outfit of their choice, that may, but doesn’t have to, incorporate a book character.

Your child may also wish to bring in their favourite book to read and share with children across the school during the day.

World Book Day tokens will be given to the children on Thursday, which can be used to purchase a special release World Book Day 2022 book, or towards the cost of a book of your child’s choice.  Vouchers can be used in many bookshops and supermarkets up until the 27th March.

We look forward to seeing the wide variety of costumes and characters!
