1st April 2022

Dear parents/ carers,

What a busy final week of term we have had in school!

Year 3 Fire safety:  Year three met Andrea from the Essex Fire Team on Wednesday to discuss fire safety.  What a super session it was; the children were so well behaved and asked some super questions too!

Year 3 and 4 orienteering!  If you wondered why it was so quiet at drop off and pick up on Monday, it’s because Years 3 and 4 had a day trip to Epping Forest to take part in orienteering activities.  Even though most of the children (and adults, Mrs Parnell!!) came back covered in mud, they had the most amazing time.  Thank you to our wonderful staff for making it such a great experience and of course our super volunteers, Carly, Heather and Nicki.

House Points:  Well done to the RED Team who were first placed this week.

Year 5 were thrilled to have a visit from two of Edward’s 8 week old bunnies today.  We were lucky to be able to stroke and have a cuddle with our very well behaved guests.     It was the perfect end to our plant and animals life cycle science topic and was very fitting as we approach Easter.  We would like to say a big thank you to Anne Taylor  for bringing them in to see us.

Our wonderful Mrs Heaps, who is always thinking of different opportunities for the children, organised a zoom call this week from a marine biologist!  Eleanor Spencer is a marine biologist working on her PhD studying rock lobsters in Australia. She spoke to some children from years 2 to 6 about her job this week and how she overcame a lack of confidence in writing (she was diagnosed with dyslexia) to follow her dreams of becoming a marine biologist.  The children who were part of the Zoom call asked fantastic questions, such as ‘Do you like having dyslexia?’ and ‘What is the rarest animal you have come across?’. She has kindly agreed to help us out during our science week in the summer term too!

Years R, 1 and 2 had a super morning on their scooters on Thursday for the scoot fit event.  Even though the weather was not the best, the children had a brilliant time;  I’ve never seen such a fantastic selection of helmets!

A message from the NHS – Vaccinations for 5 to 11 year olds: From next week, parents and carers of all 5 to 11 year olds will be able to book a COVID-19 vaccination for their child. The national booking service will open for this age group on Saturday 2 April 2022, with the first appointments available from Monday 4 April 2022 onwards.

Appointments will be available in larger vaccination centres and some community pharmacies.  Larger vaccination centres will also offer whole family appointments so that already eligible adults and older children who are not fully vaccinated can take advantage of the ‘evergreen’ offer and have a vaccination at the same time as their 5 to 11 year old.

Appointments for 5 to 11 year olds who are not ‘at risk’ will also be available at some GP-run sites.  If your GP is offering the vaccine, they will contact you.  Please do not contact them.

Vaccinations are already available for ‘at risk’ 5 to 11 year olds, and children in this age group who live with someone who has a weakened immune system. Until now vaccinations for this ‘at risk’ group of children have been available through GPs and special educational needs schools but parents and carers will be now able to book their vaccination through the national booking service when that opens for 5-11s.  To book a COVID vaccination for all eligible age groups please visit the NHS national booking service or dial 119.

That’s it from me for this spring term, I wish you all a very relaxing and healthy Easter break.  I look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Tuesday 19th April.

For now, we can enjoy the beautiful Chloe and her delight at making Easter cakes.

Best wishes,

Kim
