18th March 2022

Dear parents/ carers,

Before you start your weekend, just a few bits of news this week, starting with a huge thankyou for your generosity today in support of Comic Relief and Ukraine.  So far a wonderful £255 has been donated; thank you so much!  It’s not too late if you would still like to donate, we will be collecting until next Friday.

Key Stage 1 Dance Festival:  A report from Mrs Espie… Our budding performers in Year 1 and 2 participated in a Key Stage 1 Dance Festival hosted at Henham today, along with children from surrounding schools.  Dancing to ‘Sky Full of Stars’ and ‘The Power’, all children danced brilliantly, with amazing costumes too.  This was the first time they have performed to a large audience, and they really rose to the occasion and shone.  Many thanks too to all our wonderful parents who assisted in supplying costumes.  We will find an opportunity to showcase our performances to families very soon.

Polly said ‘I thought the competition was really good because there was lots of people in it and there were some great songs that I remembered and liked’

Orson said ‘It was good!  My favourite part was the last dance that we did together to clapping (samba) music.

Well done years 1 and 2, I am so proud of you all!

A time for sharing knowledge: As part of their phonological awareness sessions, Elm Class created their own body percussion routines, which they have worked on in small groups and rehearsed.  They went into Cherry Class to perform their routines and teach a simple pattern of moves as well.  Elm and Cherry class then performed to the rest of the groups.  The children really enjoyed working together and showed great co-ordination!  Well done everyone!

Dogs:  Could I please request that if your dog is not friendly with other dogs and can get loud and jumpy, that you refrain from bringing them on site and keep them outside of the school gates.  The last thing I want is to ban dogs from school, however there have been a few incidents that have caused distress to the children and so I will be monitoring this closely during the next week.   Thank you for your understanding.

Tag rugby, Essex Schools Finals:  On Wednesday, the Year 6 Tag Rugby Team attended the finals of the Tag Rugby event at Harlow Rugby club, after qualifying in the two previous rounds.  We are all so proud of the team – they have performed  magnificently and being able to represent the Essex schools is a fantastic achievement.

Huge congratulations to the team: Alex M, Evie F, Grace S, Harry H, Louis P, Luke, Oscar P, Ozzie L, Phoebe D, Rex M, Rosa D and Sam T.

Here’s a report from Alex, Evie, Grace and Ozzie:  ‘We arrived at the rugby to find three things… we’d arrived early, one hour!  Sam left his lunch on the mini bus and Ozzie got his feet wet, due to his ‘SUPER’ sliders!

After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, we got onto the pitch and started warming up.  We had our first match around 1.15pm, we lost 5:4.  We had another tough match that we lost, though after that we started warming up and started winning games, we won three in a row.

The drama… Luke lost a nail! Alex fell on and hurt his ankle!

In the end, we got into the winning tournament and came fifth in Essex! Oh and Sam found his lunch!!

House Points:  Well done to the Purple Team who have taken back the first placed position this week!
