8th July 2022

Dear parents/ carers,

Following on from the great fun we had at the summer fete last weekend, I’m going to start this weeks’ newsletter with a message from the PSA:

The PSA would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came along to the school summer fete last Saturday. It was lovely to see so many of you there and we hope everyone had a great time!

An extra special thanks goes to:

– everyone who donated items for the tombola and helped out on the day,

– year 4 parents headed up by Fiona Miller for organising the raffle and getting so many amazing prizes,

– all the local businesses for donating raffle prizes and Tesco Bishop’s Stortford for bread rolls for the BBQ,

– and of course to Mrs Hall for volunteering to be in the stocks!

The grand total raised on the day was an amazing £2,608.70! All the money raised will go towards the new school library – we still have a way to go, so keep an eye out for the date of our next fundraising event which will be a jumble sale when we return after the summer.

If you would like to help out on the Parent School Association (PSA) to raise funds for the school please contact Amy Burgering: Amy.psa@henhamugley.essex.sch.uk or drop a message on your class WhatsApp or Facebook group and a member of the PSA will get back to you.

A reminder of the Online safety session:  The 2 Johns will be presenting an online session to parents and carers, looking at the online world and how young people are using it.  It will explore how they are navigating around restrictions and using the internet without parents knowledge.  To join this event on Monday 11th July at 7.30pm, please use: this zoom link

School photographs – There’s still time to order any pictures at a discounted price.  The Early Bird Deadline has been extended until Friday 15th July.  If you need any help with the photos, please contact Pret-a-Portrait directly on 0800 021 7626 or customerservice@pret-a-portrait.net

This week we took collection of a free commemorative book for every child from Reception Class to Year 6, to mark Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.  The book ‘Queen Elizabeth: A Platinum Jubilee Celebration’ has been designed as an official once-in-a-lifetime commemoration of the Platinum Jubilee and written in collaboration with royal experts and historians.  They are lovely little hardback books to keep (with a bookmark too!).

The Summer Reading Challenge is back!  Take part in the Summer Reading Challenge, which happens every year during the summer holidays and is aimed at children aged four to eleven. You can sign up at your local library from tomorrow, Saturday 9th July, read six library books of your choice to complete the challenge. There are rewards to collect along the way, which will keep your child motivated, and it is free to take part! This year the theme is Gadgeteers.  For more information, visit https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/

Year 4: We have had a Design and Technology morning today working with clay to create an Anglo Saxon village. The children have planned it all and worked  together as a whole class creating different elements,  working brilliantly together as a whole class team. This will now dry over the weekend before we paint it and assemble it Monday!

That’s it for this week, some more pictures from our allotment for you… this week, weeding and snails!
