27th January 2023

Dear parents/ carers,

As we head towards the first planned day of strike action by members of the NEU next Wednesday 1st February, a reminder that school will be open as usual.

As detailed in last week’s newsletter, this may mean some changes to the usual staffing arrangements in your child’s class.

School timings: In order to comply with the Department for Education (DfE) directive to ensure that every school provides 6.5 hours of teaching time per day for years R – 6, I need to change our current school opening and closing arrangements for registration and end of day collection.

I appreciate that making these changes could impact on your childcare/ work commitments and have therefore decided to phase in this change.

The first change will be following the February half term break.

From Monday 20th February 2023, registration will be at 8.45am.

The school gate will be opened at 8.30am and children will need to be in their class by 8.45am for morning registration and the start of their first lesson.

The school gate will close promptly at 8.45am for all children in Years R-6.

Nursery parents will still be provided access to the nursery classroom – the start time of 8.45am and finish time of 11.45am for nursery children will remain unchanged.

Any children from years R-6 who arrive at school after 8.45am, will need to enter school via the front office entrance to be registered and marked as a late arrival.

From Monday 17th April 2023, the school finish time will be at 3.15pm when the school gate will be opened for you to collect your children.

Children that have permission to walk home will be able to leave school at 3.15pm.

I will send a further reminder of the after school timing change before the start of the summer term.

If you would like further information regarding the 6.5 hours per day, please see the following document: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1063520/Minimum_expectation_for_length_of_school_week_-__information_note.pdf

iRock: You may recall before half term, the children had a great time at an assembly led by iRock.  So far, there have been 25 expression of interests made directly to iRock, which means those children signed up will be able to start the lessons after half term.  iRock will contact those parents directly to provide full details.

It’s not too late if you want more information or to sign your child up.  Further details can be found on the attached flyer or by visiting: www.irockschool.com emailing info@irockschool.com or calling 0330 174 2655.

Maze Parenting Programme: The MAZE Parenting Programme is a structured specialist 12-week programme (10 weeks online) for parents/carers of children and young people with any kind of additional needs (with or without a diagnosis).  The Programme runs termly (January-April, April-July, September-December).

The MAZE Specialist Parenting Programme has been designed to provide information to parents/carers about neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g., autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, learning difficulties etc) in a group setting.

All parents/carers whose GPs are located in North-East Essex are able to access the Programme at no cost due to funding from North-East Essex’s Clinical Commissioning Group.  For those outside of North-East Essex there is a nominal fee.   For more information, please go to:

Have you joined our Henham and Ugley School information Facebook Page?  Regular information is posted including helpful links like the Maze information listed above.  If you haven’t already joined and would like to, please follow this link:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/534757024125991 and click on the become a member link.  Please do drop me an email or catch me on the school gate if you haven’t been given access to the page.  Please note, if the questions aren’t answered I won’t provide access.  It is helpful to put your child’s name so I can make sure the participants of the group are all members of our school community.
