Dear parents/ carers,

As we come to the end of the children’s second week back, I’m going to start my newsletter with a huge well done to all the children that put themselves forward for the role of Eco Council and Pupil Voice representatives; you should all be incredibly proud of yourselves for the effort put into your nomination speeches.

Bishop’s Stortford Running Club – Training for 9 to 16 year olds

The Bishop’s Stortford Running Club is providing training sessions for 9 to 16 year olds for the academic year starting September 2022. The weekly coached sessions incorporate a wide range of activities with a focus on sprinting and endurance running.

There are ten sessions per term; sessions are on Saturday mornings between 10.15am and 11.15am, with registration from 10.00am.

For the Autumn term, sessions start on 17th Sep 2022 and end on 3rd Dec 2022 with a two week half-term break on 22nd Oct and 29th Oct 2022.

The sessions take place at our clubhouse (shared with Hockerill Sports and Social Club) in Beldams Lane, Bishops Stortford CM23 5LG.  Sessions take place on the enclosed playing field and on nearby trails.

The cost is an annual membership of £35, sign-up at https://www.myclubhouse.co.uk/BSRC

All sessions are held under the guidance of UK Athletics qualified coaches who have the appropriate DBS checks.  For a free initial trial session or any other enquiries please contact Feridun Kadir at juniors@bsrc.org.uk

Year 6 to 7 secondary admission round for September 2023:  As I’m sure you’re aware, the new secondary school admission round opened on Monday 12 September 2022, for parents of current Year 6 children to apply for a secondary school (Year 7) place for September 2023.
The statutory national closing date for applications is 31st October 2022.
Applications can be made online via www.essex.gov.uk/admissions. All of the application information is available on the website above.

If you have booked or are booking your child to visit a secondary school, please could you email the office at admin@henhamugley.essex.sch.uk or jnicholls@henhamugley.essex.sch.uk to advise the time of absence and whether a lunch is required, thank you.

Reception School Places September 2023:  Applications for a Reception school place starting September 2023 can be made between 7 November 2022 and 15 January 2023.  Information about the application process can be found here: https://www.essex.gov.uk/apply-for-a-primary-school-place

I am offering individual tours of the school during school hours and after school.  If you or someone you know would like to arrange a visit, please contact the school office admin@henhamugley.essex.sch.uk or 01279 850213 to arrange an appointment.

Student Contact Information Update Forms:  Thank you to the many of you who have already returned the update forms recently.  If you still haven’t, could I ask that these are returned to school by Friday 23rd September to ensure we have the most up to date information in school.  A reminder, the forms are green!  If you have any questions or queries, please contact Mrs Nicholls in the school office or at jnicholls@henhamugley.essex.sch.uk who will be happy to help, or catch me at the gate at drop off or pick up.

After School Activity Clubs:  You will already have received the information regarding after school activity clubs and signed your child up.  Clubs will start week commencing 19th September, with the exception of my hockey club which start on Friday 30th September.

Peripatetic Music Lessons:  Music lessons will start week commencing 19th September as follows:

Tuesdays – Drums and Woodwind.             Wednesdays – Guitar.         Thursday’s Piano.

Sunday 25th September: Apple and Bees Day at the Gardens of Easton Lodge:  Making apple juice and bird feeders, seeing and learning about Queen bees and their drones, tasting apple cakes and honey are just some of the special events that children enjoy at the Apple and Bees Day at Easton Lodge, as well as climbing into the tree house, learning about the Countess of Warwick’s baby elephant Kim, and a seasonal trail. Free entry for children under 16 years old, adult entry £5.50, gates open from 11.00, last entry 4.00pm. Hot and cold refreshments available, including bacon or cheese rolls and homemade cake. Tuesday 4th October: Flu vaccine in school.  A letter has already been sent from the school office but I have attached the information flyer again in case you missed it.

That’s it for this week, another lengthy newsletter, thanks for making it to the end!  It just leaves me to confirm that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s State Funeral on Monday 19th September is a national bank holiday and as such, schools will not be open.  We will reopen on Tuesday 20th September.
