4th October 2019
Dear parents/ carers,

It has been wonderful seeing so many family members join us in school this week. Firstly for the Harvest Festival Service at the church on Tuesday, and secondly at the Macmillan Coffee morning. I feel very privileged to be head of our lovely village school and getting to see you at these events always reminds me of how much support there is here at Henham; thank you.

Thank you also to those that have already donated items for the Uttlesford food bank – it’s not too late! We have extended the collection to the end of next week, and a reminder that the foodbank is currently short of long life juice and squash, toilet rolls, puddings, such as microwave puddings, jellies, custard, packets of flavoured rice and small packets of rice in general as well as coffee and jam.
The items can be brought directly to the school office or with your child into class. For more information please see the following link: https://uttlesford.foodbank.org.uk/ Thank you.

News from the Kitchen – This week we had an unannounced visit from the Uttlesford Food Hygiene Inspection Team. I am delighted to advise that the kitchen has maintained its high level of standards and once again achieved the highest grade – 5 stars. Well done to the catering staff, Ms Reed, Ms Potter and Mrs Smith for their consistent hard work and dedication in ensuring these standards are met.

PSA – Unfortunately, the PSA movie night on the 15th November has been postponed for the time being – I will let you know as soon as we have an alternative date. Don’t worry though, there’s still fun for the children (and adults!) with a Halloween disco on Friday 8th November in the school hall. Look out for further details soon!

Parking – I really don’t like to write about anything negative, but sadly, I am yet again needing to remind some parents/ carers about their inconsiderate and dangerous parking. The vast majority of you sensibly park away from School Lane, Sages and Pimblett Row and I, along with the children, am very grateful. I have had numerous emails and personal conversations with parents this week about how frustrating the parking situation is and our real concerns for the children’s safety. One of the calls received was about a child nearly being run over because they could not see clearly due to dangerous parking. I am so concerned that we are only a matter of time away from a serious accident. I once again urge those that are parking in School Lane, Sages and Pimblett Row to please stop and use Mill Lane and walk into school; thank you.

Hall for hire – a reminder that our lovely community school hall is available to hire in the evenings and weekends. During the week the cost is £10 per hour and just £12 per hour for weekends. The hall is currently used for various activities, including badminton, football and karate, with others hiring out the hall for their children’s parties. You can currently make a booking by contacting Sarah Coke at swc.henham@gmail.com

Coming up next week…
Tuesday 8th October 2pm – Volunteer Safeguarding session with Kim Hall
Thursday 10th October after school – Year 5/6 Football league match – home to Clavering
Friday 11th October 9am – Year 5 Sharing Assembly to parents – I look forward to seeing you in the school hall.

With best wishes,

Kim Hall
