28th February 2020

Dear Parents and carers,

Well, it’s been a rather cold and chilly first week back, but thankfully not enough snow to cause any issues, and we were warmed up this morning by the wonderful Year 2 sharing assembly.

Mrs Hipperson – I am absolutely delighted to let you know that Mrs Hipperson will be returning to school on Monday 3rd March.  I know how much we have all missed her and we are looking forward to seeing her back, although only for the mornings for the time being.  Mrs Nicholls, who has been an absolute superstar during Mrs Hipperson’s absence, will continue to work Tuesday-Thursday afternoons during this transition period.

World Book Day, Thursday 5th March.  Our theme this year is ‘bed time story day’ and we welcome children (and adults!) to come into school dressed in their pyjamas/ lounge wear, their favourite book character costume or non-uniform.  We have received the children’s £1 book tokens, which we will give to the children on Thursday when Foyles Books are in school from 9 -4pm, where a range of books will be available to purchase.

We will take the children in to look at the books in allocated slots throughout the day; you are welcome to pop in after school until 4pm also.

If you would like your child to bring in money to purchase a book (over the £1 token), we have envelopes available in the office for their money to be placed in securely for Thursday.

If you have any questions about the day, please do just ask the staff or find me on the playground; thank you.

Music Quiz – Friday 13th March from 7.30pm – Mrs Carter will be hosting a music quiz, with the proceeds going to the school.  This is a fantastic night of entertainment!  Tickets are currently available at the school gate every day.  We are now collecting the money for any tables already requested, please drop it off to the office in a named envelope.  If you would like further information or wish to purchase tickets, please speak to Katie Moxley or Amy Burgering from the PSA or the school office.

Parents Evening Bookings

The system for booking a slot on parent’s evening will be live from 4pm today on Scopay.  The dates and times are Tuesday 10th March 3.30-7pm and Thursday 12th March 3.30-5.30pm for Reception to Year 6.  Should you require any support booking on, please do contact the school office who will be happy to help.  If you have a one plan meeting booked in for March, please do not feel you have to attend both consultations, although if you want to, of course you are more than welcome.

If you aren’t a runner, but would still like to be involved, we will be needing lots of marshalls on the day.  Please do get in touch if you would like to help out.

All profits go towards our school, when we will be hosting our summer fete on the same day too.

Football report from the match between St Mary’s Stansted and Henham, from Mrs Carter – The match started off really well, with both teams playing really competitively.  There was nothing to choose between the two teams: it was a really tight game.  But then St Mary’s started playing really well together – they had plenty of chances to go ahead, but our goalkeeper Will was absolutely amazing and performed some brilliant saves.  But in the end he couldn’t keep the ball out of the net and by half time we were three goals down.  However, what was brilliant about our team is that they didn’t get downhearted, they maintained their sense of humour and they went back into the second half determined to do better.  And they succeeded!  We finished the match having scored three goals of our own.  Joe stepped in as goalkeeper and he was absolutely brilliant, managing to keep a clean sheet for the entire half.  So we walked away with a fabulous draw which was a fair result.  I am very proud of our team who played so beautifully together and were a credit to the school.
