7th February 2020
Dear Parents and carers,

Did you notice there wasn’t a newsletter last week? This was because I didn’t feel there was enough new news to write about, and I am aware that sometimes you may feel bombarded with different letters/ information from school.
So, I have decided to issue my newsletter fortnightly from now on, with events coming up for the following two weeks.
Of course, if there is anything you need to know in between, separate letters/ emails, will go out as they do now.

Well done to Reception Class for a wonderful assembly, shared with parents this morning. The children’s singing was absolutely fabulous. With such a great turnout of parents and carers too; a wonderful start to Friday morning!

A sports report from Mrs Brogan: Henham took part in the sports hall athletics competition at Forest Hall school last Friday. With all the children looking very smart and suitably geared up for the event, we set off for what promised to be a challenging event!
The hall was charged with excitement with all the children encouraging and cheering on their peers. I was bursting with pride at how beautifully behaved our Henham children were; patiently waiting for their events, listening when asked to and displaying the most respectful and polite attitude. They were models of great sportsmanship.
Both year 3-4 and year 5-6 came a very close 2nd which means we don’t qualify for the finals, but all participants pushed themselves and have made us all proud; with some amazing results:
Robin was awarded a joint 1st for her vertical jump, India achieved an outstanding result coming 1st in the triple jump, with an epic 5.3m, with Kitty not far behind in 3rd position with 4.8m – well done girls! An outstanding 6.4m chest push from Chloe landed her a 1st. Ethan’s determination paid off with a 1.86m long jump and 5.1m triple jump, with Will not far behind with a distance of 4.9m for triple jump and 1.78 long jump – fabulous boys!
Wow Pheobe, a javelin throw of 12.9m securing her a 1st! An amazing performance from Sam in his event; 1.6m in his long jump. Evie and Franklin set the bar high with their 5 stride results; securing them both 1st. George was outstanding in his vertical jump, coming 1st in his event too! Alex was super speedy in the boys speed bounce coming 2nd in his event-amazing!
What an incredible set of results for Henham; just pipped at the post for qualifying, but nevertheless and outstanding day – WELL DONE TEAM HENHAM!

Hockey – a superb game was played by the B team tonight against Newport, with two fabulous goals scored by Alec and Thomas. A brilliant team effort – well done to you all. I am so proud of your sportsmanship and team effort.
A reminder, our next match is the B team on the 28th February against Dame Bradburys.

Nuts! – you may recall a few weeks ago I reminded you that we are a no nut school; we have children and staff with severe nut allergies. Can I please remind parents and carers again, as we have had instances of children still bringing in snacks and packed lunches that contain nuts, including seeded bread and Nutella. Thank you for your support with this.

Absence and lateness– A reminder, that if your child is unwell and not going to be in school, you need to make contact with us by 9.30am on the day of the absence, either by telephone 01279 850213 or via email at admin@henhamugley.essex.sch.uk
If we haven’t heard from you by 9.30am, we will telephone you to find out the reason why your child isn’t in school. If we cannot get hold of you, this raises a concern and I have a duty to report it to the Educational Welfare Team.
We have had quite a few instances of having to call parents during the last few weeks and this could be because you were unaware of the procedure, hence clarifying it now.
You need to call each day your child is absent – thank you.
Additionally, you may have noticed that the school gate is being closed promptly at 8.55am – the gate opens by 8.45am, registration is at 8.55am and assemblies start at 9am, so it is important that children arrive in time to start the day without rushing. If getting in on time is a difficulty for you, please do speak to me directly to see how I can help.

Outstanding money – As we approach the final week of this half term, could I please ask that any outstanding monies are paid up by the end of the week. If you are having difficulty, please do get in touch with me either in school or at head@henhamugley.essex.sch.uk Thank you.

Headteacher Awards – You may have noticed that there have not been any Headteacher awards lately? This is because I have been talking to the children about the award categories, and we agreed that they should be changed, now that we have our resilience awards assemblies every Wednesday.
Having discussed it with the children, they came up with the following three categories: Empathy, Manners and Participation. The first awards were given out in the Reception Class assembly this morning. Well done to the following children:
R/Yr 1/ Yr 2 Yrs 3/4/5/6
