13th March 2020

Dear Parents and carers,

Well it’s been an interesting week with the focus across the country on COVID-19.  I would like to confirm that we are not aware of any incidents in school.  We are in constant dialogue with Essex County Council and Public Health England and as new information comes in, I will continue to send it out to you.

You will note that the government has amended its guidelines for self-isolation.  These can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-people-with-confirmed-or-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection

Additionally, I have created a dedicated section on our school website, so you can also keep up to date on the latest information from the DfE and ECC by visiting: https://henhamugley.essex.sch.uk/coronavirus/

Please make us aware if your child is having to self-isolate, has developed symptoms or you are concerned, and we will discuss the next steps with you in terms of school attendance.

As news of the virus continues to change I will keep you updated as to any impact on our school setting.

In school, we continue with our days as usual, and on Friday we had the Year 4 sharing assembly; and what a great turnout of friends and family we had.  Thank you so much for sharing in the celebration of Year 4’s work.

Sports:  A football report from Mrs. Richardson – A strong performance from an enthusiastic Henham team secured a 7-0 victory over our visiting opponents from Rickling this week.  Goals came from Fraser (2), Hannah (3), Sam P and Ethan.  Man of the match was Harry Mc for not only his performance on the pitch but also his attitude and willingness to play in any position.  Well done team!

On Friday after school, the hockey A team played against RAButler, and what a tough fought match it was!  Harry M was exceptional in goal, and along with the rest of the team, demonstrated such resilience and determination against a very strong opposition. The final score was 3-0 to RAB.  Well done A team, you pushed yourselves and I am so proud of you all.

Coffee with Cops – Monday 23rd March, 3-5pm: The first Coffee with Cops will be on Monday 23rd March at OSCA 15:00 to 17:00, with our PCSO, Nikki Morris.  The idea behind Coffee with cops is to give the community an opportunity to meet their local PCSO. It’s a great opportunity to raise any issues that are present in the community and bring these to police attention.  I look forward to seeing you there.

An appeal from Forest Hall School PTA: A group of students from FH are going out to an orphanage in Corfu later in the year, and are busy raising funds.  They are also trying to gather second hand football boots and football club shirts to take out with them. If you have any old football boots or football shirts you would like to donate, please see the attached leaflet for more information.

Change of dates – Year 5/6 production/ School Open Evening: We have had to change the date of the Year 5/6 production and open evening.  Please note the new dates:

Year 5/6 production: Thursday 16th July, two performances – 1.45pm and 7pm

Whole School Open evening: Wednesday 15th July – 3.15-4.30pm

Music Quiz:– What a great night of entertainment we had yesterday at the PSA Music Quiz.  It was great to see you all there.  The PSA are working out their figures, and I will update you in the next newsletter of how much was raised.  A special thank you to Mrs. Carter for creating and presenting the quiz, no mean feat!  And to Mrs. Holman for assisting so brilliantly.  Additionally, the wonderful PSA team and parent volunteers, and of course everyone who supported by coming along.  You are all amazing!
